Established in 1911, SCAV is a non-profit association representing veterinarians. The objectives of the Association are to advance the science and art of veterinary medicine by providing opportunities for professional education and development and by enhancing the relationships between veterinarians, agriculture, pet owners, government and the public at large; and to protect the public health by promoting proper involvement in human and animal health care by the veterinary profession.

Founded in 2001, the SCAVT is dedicated to the advancement and promotion of veterinary technology through the unity of its profession. It is our goal to increase public awareness of the vital role the licensed technician plays in the veterinary healthcare team, and to provide a professional unity within our state. There is strength in numbers, and we are binding professionals together one technician at a time. It is the main goal of the SCAVT to provide unity to veterinary technicians state wide. By doing so, we provide a network of opportunities such as continuing education, employment opportunities, and the chance to make a difference.

The American Association of Small Ruminant Practitioners (AASRP) was founded in 1968 to further the programs and studies of those working with small ruminants – sheep, goats, camelids, elk, deer and other related species.  AASRP encourages education, research and training to promote good health and productivity and to benefit organization members around the world.  They provide a single forum for those with interests in small ruminants, where we can exchange ideas, share knowledge and together set goals and objectives that will benefit the industry as a whole.AASRP’s primary goals are to work in cooperation with regulatory agencies, to further the professional development of members and to provide resources to elevate the standards of small ruminant medicine.

The UGA College of Veterinary Medicine and Teaching Hospital, located in Athens, GA,  is dedicated to training future veterinarians, conducting research related to animal and human diseases, and providing veterinary services for animals and their owners. Since South Carolina does not have a state veterinary college, South Carolina residents may attend UGA CVM at the in-state tuition rate.  SC veterinarians may also refer cases and request professional consults for their patients

The Diagnostic Center assists veterinarians, animal industry, and animal owners with livestock, poultry, companion animal, and wildlife disease problems. The Center is an integral part of a disease surveillance system that helps to assure a safe and adequate food supply and to protect the health and welfare of South Carolina citizens. The Diagnostic Center is “accredited for all species” by the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD) and is a member laboratory of the National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN).

With the mission to – To protect the health and value of American agriculture and natural resources, the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service is a multi-faceted Agency with a broad mission area that includes protecting and promoting U.S. agricultural health, regulating genetically engineered organisms, administering the Animal Welfare Act and carrying out wildlife damage management activities. These efforts support the overall mission of USDA, which is to protect and promote food, agriculture, natural resources and related issues. Also starting point for interstate and international travel for pets/animals.
